Please join us in Baltimore on Monday, March 18th for a lecture by Dr. Lukasz
Bratasz, Head of the Cultural Heritage Research Group at the Jerzy Haber
Institute of Catalysis and Surface Chemistry, Polish Academy of Sciences; a
reception will follow:

"Management of environmental conditions for heritage collections on display, in
storage or in transit have been the focus of vigorous debates in recent years
and is increasingly quantifiable by scientific analysis. The interest in the
issue has been driven by the growing movement towards green museums or
libraries. That is, managing indoor environments in a responsible and efficient
manner, especially in terms of reducing energy consumption and carbon emissions
but at the same time maintaining high standards of collection care. Dr. Bratasz
will give an overview of current trends in designing spaces for heritage
collections based on a better understanding of environmental risks, relative
significance of those risks, analysis of capital and energy costs as well as
new 'passive' solutions."

Location: Mason Hall Auditorium, Homewood Campus, Johns Hopkins University
