The Staatliche Akademie der Bildenden Künste Stuttgart (Stuttgart Academy of 
Art and Design) has a full professorship to offer in the Department of 
Art-related Studies and Conservation within the framework of the Women 
Professors Programme of the Federal and State governments. This programme 
(Professorinnenprogramm III) aims to promote gender equality in research and 
science departments at German universities. Applications are invited for the 
following position, which is to be occupied at the earliest possible date:

anticipatory Professor of Conservation of New Media and Digital Information
(Bes.-Gr. W 3 / public service salary group W3) 
The successful candidate’s area of expertise will cover the whole spectrum of 
modern media, from early analogue audiovisual records to current digital media. 
Applicants are expected to have experience in the theory and practice of 
preservation and conservation of both analogue and digital media 
(photography/film/AV/digital information) as well as in-depth knowledge of 
those research areas that interlink media history and information technology. 
At the professional expertise level, the job profile includes not only 
development of the study programme in collaboration with the current chair 
holder, conducting and supervision of courses leading to BA and MA 
examinations, guidance of PhD students but also proactive involvement in 
research and development projects and conferences and in the acquisition of 
external third-party funding. At the institutional level, the successful 
candidate will be expected to serve on the department’s and institution’s 
academic self-governance boards and to participate in quality control and the 
strategic development of the Department of Art-related Studies and Conservation 
alongside those responsible for the individual study programmes. 
Required Qualifications: 
- a university degree
- pedagogical aptitude  
- outstanding achievements in the preservation and conservation of media 
objects 
- evidence of successful research activity, such as PhD dissertation or 
equivalent qualification, of the ability to acquire external funding for 
research activities and of participation in and input to national or 
international scholarly conferences as well as an established publishing record 
Should the official requirements for an appointment in the German civil service 
(Beamtenverhältnis) not be fulfilled, an employment contract outside this 
system is possible.
