We are currently undertaking rehanging of our art collection by replacing plastic cleats with seismic hooks supplied by Takiya in Japan. The hooks have a spring clip which means the d-ring can’t come off. Previously the cleat was attached to the frame and it was hanging on a single screw. Anecdotally these have failed in earthquakes, either coming off, plastic has ripped or the screw has sheared off. We felt that the risk was too great so have commenced this programme of work. The artworks are hanging in a vertical wooden pull-out drawer system, but in future we hope to have pull-out mesh racking and then we would use another type of seismic s-hook with a similar spring clip to attach the painting to the mesh. Takiya supply these as well and also supply the d-rings which come in multiple different sizes to fit the painting frame and the hooks, which come in two sizes for the current work. Hope that helps,
