This will be the 5th iteration of this conference series, which is addressed to and organised by students and emerging professionals in the field of conservation and restoration. The conference, titled “The Conservator’s Reflection”, is divided into three sessions and aims at providing a meeting platform for conservation students and recent graduates to discuss their professional goals, needs and expectations, and to connect internationally. We would be very happy if you could support us in transferring the following information, including the ‘save the date’ text, to students or emerging conservators to give them the possibility to join this event. Discussions will be streamed live online, questions submitted live on via social media will be included in the discussions. IIC's Student & Emerging Conservator Conference biennial series, initiated in 2011, aims at providing a meeting platform for conservation students and recent graduates to discuss their professional goals, needs and expectations at the outset of their careers, to connect internationally and to inspire the development of plans with a broadened horizon. CICS is delighted to bring together students, emerging conservators and emerging professionals in related disciplines from all over the world. The conference will have the same format as the last four successful IIC-SEC Conferences in London (2011), Copenhagen (2013), Warsaw (2015) and Bern (2017). Panel discussions, studio visits and social events will offer invaluable networking opportunities. The format further allows the next generation of conservation professionals to gain valuable information and advice from our invited speakers who have already walked that path. The conference's title is “The Conservator’s Reflection”. This title is meant to be ambiguous – How do we see ourselves as conservation professionals? Also, however, how are we seen by others, both by colleagues in institutions and by the general public? In addition to the sessions, the participants will be able to visit the workrooms of the Cologne Institute for Conservation Sciences and enjoy guided tours at some of Cologne’s finest museums and historic sites.
