Position opening: Museum am Rothenbaum (Stiftung offentlichen Rechts) is seeking a full time textiles conservator to join the conservation department. Salary according to the E10 TV-AVH (public service Hamburg)
The collections held by the Museum am Rothenbaum Kulturen und Kunste der Welt (MARKK) include significant and diverse textiles, originating from cultures in different regions of the world and are made of a variety of materials and techniques. Currently the MARKK (https://markk-hamburg.de/) is going through an exciting period of renewal and reorientation. One of the main objectives within the collections management activities of the coming period will be the implementation of a new storage facility and renewal of the permanent exhibition galleries in the Museum. These activities will substantially influence and direct the tasks of the posted position. The post holder will: Plan and implement the activities related to the care and conservation of textiles as well as preparations for exhibitions and loans. Assess the condition and survey the textile collections within the scope of the museums inventory project. Improve storage of the textile collections and plan the logistics and implementation of moving the collections into a new storage facility. Organise and plan relevant preventive conservation measures. Participate in exhibition preparation and installation. Participate in the supervision of conservation interns. Represent the conservation department within the museum and in public. What we expect: Completion of graduate level training in textiles conservation from a recognized art conservation program. Familiarity with preventive conservation. Experience in the production of suitable storage and exhibition mounts. Relevant post-graduate experience working in museums and with storage planning. Excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to work well in interdisciplinary teams. Team and goal oriented working, reliable, flexible and stress resistant. Demonstrated ability to work independently, highly organised and structured. Confident in the use of MS Office and collections database. Fluent in English (C1) and German (or willing to learn) We would prefer: Familiarity in the care of World Cultures collections.
