Beetle Wing Study Day and Conservation Workshop Date: Saturday 17th August 2019 Host: Zenzie Tinker Conservation Ltd, Brighton, UK
Come and join us for a day exploring the use and conservation of beetle wings (elytra) in historic costume and textiles. Conservators from Zenzie Tinker Conservation (ZTC) and the Victoria & Albert Museum (V&A) will be discussing the treatment of the iconic Lady Macbeth Beetle wing dress from the National Trusts, Smallhythe Place and a mid 19th C muslin ensemble from the V&A Collections, amongst other objects. Lauren Osmond, currently a Samuel H Kress Conservation Fellow at the V&A researching beetle elytra will also present her work on wet cleaning elytra and her latest findings involving the use of pressure to reverse unwanted structural colour changes. Following presentations on the projects, participants will spend the afternoon experimenting with various cleaning techniques, trying different adhesives for repairs and learning a useful repair technique involving paper. There will then be a chance to discuss any beetle wing related projects participants would like to bring to the table as we are also hoping for a real exchange of information. But equally, students are welcome! The workshop will held at the ZTC studio in central Brighton, five minutes walk from the station. Cost will include lunch and all refreshments. The day is open to conservators and anyone with an interest in the care and conservation of textiles and dress decorated with beetle elytra 10am – 4.30pm GBP 90 full price, GBP 75 students Please email for a booking form, places limited, booking closes 30 July 2019 zen...@zenzietinker.co.uk Zenzie Tinker ACR Director Zenzie Tinker Conservation Ltd Studio E Level 7 North, New England House, New England Street, Brighton BN1 4GH Studio + 44 (0)1273 685222 Mobile + 44 (0)7894 584436 www.zenzietinker.co.uk ****** Unsubscribe by sending a message to consdistlist-le...@cool.conservation-us.org Searchable archives: http://cool.conservation-us.org/byform/mailing-lists/cdl/
