The New York City Municipal Archives Preservation / Conservation Unit is 
seeking a part-time (2-days/week), contract paper conservator for an 
approximately 10-month term position. The successful candidate will participate 
in a grant-funded project to conserve a collection of oversized maps and 
drawings related to the construction of Central Park and the Brooklyn Bridge. 
Tasks will include surface cleaning, deacidification, mending, lining, and 
housing of large architectural plans, and assessment and treatment of iron gall 
ink.


QUALIFICATIONS /REQUIREMENTS:

  *   A master’s degree in paper conservation or equivalent training and 
experience; and/or
  *   A baccalaureate degree from an accredited collegeand one year full-time 
professional experience in archival, records management or library work;
  *   Education and/or experience equivalent to the above, however all 
candidates must have the baccalaureate degree from an accredited college.
  *   Demonstrated knowledge and skill in the analysis and treatment of 
paper-based materials;
  *   Experience with creating and implementing treatment plans and completing 
before, during, and after treatment documentation in accordance with AIC 
standards;
  *   Ability to plan, prioritize, and meet deadlines;
  *   Excellent communication and collaboration skills, and the ability to work 
well as part of a team;
  *   Ability to stand for hours at a time, lift and transport up to 30lbs, and 
work in areas that may include exposure to dust and/or mold

Preferred:
Experience treating oversized paper-based materials.
