The ICON Gilding and Decorative Surfaces Group has teamed up with ‘The Paint Effect’ specialist decoration school and together are offering a unique series of courses in paint finishing which will broaden your experience of painting and fine decoration.
Courses will suit all levels of experience. Lose your fear of painting, enjoy the process and come learn a new trick or two! Marbling Weekend A comprehensive course which will begin by covering aspects of glazing and paint finishing required as a foundation on which to build marble effects. You will learn techniques to achieve detailed layering and flourishes creating an impressive and convincing illusion. The course will cover the use of acrylic and oil glazes as well as some hidden tools and tricks of the trade used to create imitation marble. The course will also explore the natural formation of marble and its translation from raw material into a decorative and architectural feature. This weekend course will cover the following marbles: Carrara, Sienna, Lapis Lazuli, Portoro and Malachite. Dates: Saturday 31st August - Sunday 1st September, 10am-4:30pm. Using both oils and acrylic you will be taught how pick the correct base colour, how to layer your glaze and how to use tools particular to wood graining techniques. The course will also cover an in-depth exploration of several varieties of wood, their visual properties and the natural formation of different wood grains. The woods to be covered during the weekend will cover are: mahogany, walnut, straight grain, oak and birdseye maple. Dates: Saturday 21st September - Sunday 22nd September, 10am-4:30pm.
