grant-funded project for a period of 34 weeks. The work involves a large and
complex volume, plus some fragile letters.
You will have the opportunity to implement the conservation of paper and
binding; to identify and assess degradation factors, interpret results and
make judgements on the use of scientific processes, chemical treatments and
intricate practical conservation techniques to improve the longevity and
subsequent storage of the material.
You will have a recognised conservation qualification and experience of
archive conservation work. In addition, you will have good inter-personal

Subject: **Deadline Extended - Leather and Related Materials Working Group
13th Interim Meeting**
 Message: Dear Colleagues

Please note that The call for abstracts for the ICOM CC Leather and Related
Materials Group 13th Interim Meeting: Leather Conservation for Today has been
extended until 31st March.

We particularly welcome abstracts for posters.

The conference will be held at De Montfort University in Leicester, UK on
October 30 and 31, 2025, and will have a hybrid format, with options for both
in-person and remote attendance. In-person presentations will be prioritised.

The theme of the conference is "Leather Conservation for Today." With this
topic, we aim to explore key issues facing our specialism today, exploring new
and innovative treatments, techniques and perspectives across the wide category
of leather and skin materials.

We are hoping for contributions representing diverse areas of our specialism,
including conservation, new perspectives on the impact of old/previous
treatments, materials, analytical techniques, and/or (art-)historical aspects.

We are particularly interested in further consideration and study of 19th, 20th
and 21st century leather and leather objects, as well as treatments that employ
new materials or innovative techniques, such as mineral-tanned leather, leather
with synthetic coatings, modern and contemporary objects involving leather, use
of sulphur-free leather or other modern skin materials as a repair material, or
any innovation in treatment, approach and contextual understanding.

We welcome proposals for 20-minute papers and for posters. For either format,
please submit an abstract of a maximum of 500 words. Abstracts should be in
English and must include a title and author name(s), institutional
affiliation(s), and contact information (phone number and email address). Word
document is the preferred format.

Abstracts must be submitted by Monday, March 31, 2025, to Rosie Bolton at
[email protected] <[email protected]>. They will be
peer reviewed by the working group coordinator and assistant coordinators, and
authors of selected papers and posters will be notified in April. A publication
will follow the meeting.

PLEASE NOTE that this open call runs concurrently with the Call for Abstracts
for the ICOM-CC Triennial Conference to be held in Oslo, 2026 and abstracts
cannot be submitted to both events.

If you are unsure about which event would be most suitable for your specific
submission, please feel free to contact me to discuss!

Best wishes

Message: Dear Ms. Segelstein, interesting case! Is that ceramics your
crystals are growing on? We have seen similar looking growth of various calcium

Dear colleagues,

At Heritage Conservation Centre (Singapore) we are facing crystals growth on an
artefact inside a showcase. In museums, crystals have been reported in few
cases, from 2006 with thanks to the Rijksmuseum (Amsterdam) and the Museum of
Fine Arts (Boston). After analysis, the Rijksmuseum and the MFA found the same
pollutant compound. We found something different. And you, do you have crystals
issue ?

Please contact us to share with HCC team. We can start a review of these cases
to help the conservation community to understand these phenomena, preventive
measures and remedial treatments.

Journal: The Conservation of Glass in Heritage Science
Message: The special issue of Heritage is certainly an interesting
experiment, I'm looking forward to seeing the outcome. However, authors be
aware: you have an alternative choice. As Kate Seymour posted on Jan. 15th,
ICOM-CC is asking for extended abstracts for their Triennial Conference 2026
in Oslo (Norway). They will have their traditional 'Glass and Ceramics
Session'. Papers will be made available open access on the ICOM-CC Publications
Online website.

Subject: Upcoming deadline (April 30) for Special Issue of Heritage Journal:
The Conservation of Glass in Heritage Science

Dear Colleagues,

I am writing with a reminder of the upcoming deadline to submit to a Special
Issue of Heritage Journal dedicated to the comprehensive and multidisciplinary
glass conservation field, inviting contributions which cover glass studies and
the conservation of glass from all epochs, including contemporary art. This
Special Issue seeks to gather research articles and reviews on pioneering and
original research, practical applications, novel methodologies, and case
studies, highlighting cutting-edge research and innovative practices in the
preservation and restoration of glass artefacts. We welcome contributions on
the following topics of interest:

Innovative Treatments: Groundbreaking treatments that revolutionise traditional
methods, utilising modern technologies and materials to enhance the restoration
and stabilisation of glass objects. Papers revisiting and adapting more
conventional techniques are also welcome.

Complex Deterioration Mechanisms: Intricate factors contributing to glass
degradation, including environmental conditions, chemical composition, and
previous restorations. We also seek advances in analytical methodologies for
diagnosing and mitigating these complex deterioration processes.

Composite Objects of Glass and Other Materials-Issues and Solutions: The unique
challenges of treating composite objects, including specialised approaches to
maintaining the integrity of glass in combination with other materials, with an
emphasis on interdisciplinary solutions.

Sustainability, Preventive Conservation, and Storage: Sustainable practices in
glass conservation, including the use of environmentally friendly materials and
processes, and preventive conservation strategies to control environmental
factors and monitor the condition of glass artefacts to prevent and manage
degradation phenomena.

Training in Glass Conservation: Current educational initiatives and the
integration of innovative methodologies into training programmes.

Our final aim is to gather expertise and share experiences that actively
contribute to the preservation of glass heritage.
