Do you work with archaeological objects made of bark?
If so, we would like to invite you to take part in our survey! As part of the
Archaeobark research project (archaeobark.org), we aim to identify the methods
used for conserving archaeological objects made from unretted bark.

Conservation Labs and Collections
Message: We are thrilled to share that Adam Savage (formerly of MythBusters)
and his team spent two days this summer filming at the National Park Service
(NPS) – Harpers Ferry Center conservation labs and permanent collections.

The first of multiple segments was released on August 20 and can be viewed here:

Over the next month or more, additional segments will be released, highlighting
current projects in all five of our conservation labs-textiles, book & paper,
furniture/wood, inorganic objects, and organic objects-and showcasing our NPS
History Collection.

Spreading the word about what our team does and what the field of conservation
offers is incredibly important. We're excited by the enthusiastic response so
far, with many viewers expressing a strong interest in conservation and
recognizing the passion we bring to our work!

Subject: Call for contributions : Preserving Human Remains - 22-23 January
2026 - Musée du Quai Branly-Jacques Chirac, Paris, France
 Message:
Dear colleagues,

I am pleased to announce the international meetings "Preserving Human Remains"
to be held at the Muse du Quai Branly - Jacques Chirac on Thursday 22 and
Friday 23 January 2026. It will be a bilingual French/English conference with
simultaneous translation.

The aim of these meetings is to highlight and discuss professional practices
in the light of contemporary issues surrounding this unique heritage.

These two days, organised into thematic sessions and round-table discussions,
are intended to be a time for exchanging and sharing ideas on the uses,
feelings, questions, difficulties and prospects in the field of conservation
in the broadest sense.

How do institutions today assume their role as guarantors of the care and
respect required for the individuals for whom they are responsible? How do the
various professionals involved give substance to the recommendations set out
in the codes of ethics and professional conduct including the dialogue with
communities of origin? How can practices be improved to achieve this?
