This position provides the opportunity to work as part of a team alongside two textile conservators. MUHO (the Museum Centre in Hordaland) consists of five departments: four consolidatedmuseums and the conservation center Bevaringstenestene in the Vestland county. Bevaringstenestene is based in Salhus, close to Bergen, Norway. MUHO has 52 skilledemployees in permanent positions, and around 40 hourly and seasonal staff. Bevaringstenestene has 14 full-time staff, including collection managers and conservators specialized in preventive conservation and the conservation of textiles, furniture, metal, glass and ceramics. They are assisted by administrative and operational staff. Bevaringstenesteneis planning to expand and is currently working together with Vestland County Municipality to build a new Collection Centre with modern storage facilities, conservation studios, and offices. The successful candidate will primarily work on conservation services for external clients.They will also be required to participate in providing collections care to museumsin Vestland. This work is carried out in collaboration with staff from the museums with the aim ofimproving the conditions of collections -in storage, exhibitions, or historic interiors. We are looking for someone motivated to work in an exciting and growing professional environment focused on both preventive and interventive textileconservation. Our team includes employees from several countries, and our working languages are Norwegian and English. Workplace is Salhus (approx. 20 km north of Bergen city centre), but the position involves travel to museums and external clients as needed. Some travel with overnight stays can be expected. Work Tasks Direct interventive conservation of textiles including writing treatment estimates and reports. Preparing loan reports for exhibitions, packing and mounting textiles. Condition assessments, photography, and packing of textiles for long-term storage. Condition assessments of church textiles. Cleaning of historic interiors (housekeeping). Conducting practical and theoretical courses for museum staff, church staff, and other external clients. An interest in conservation of plastics and other modern materials is an advantage. Tasks may change over time in line with the needs of our clients. Qualifications Bachelor's or Master'sdegree in textile conservation. Relevant experience from museums and/or commissioned conservation work. Proficiency in a Nordic language and/or fluent in English, both spoken and written. Non-native speakers must learn Norwegian within two years. Familiarity with the MicrosoftOffice suite, object photography, and basic photo editing. Experience with museum collection management databases(Primus or similar) is an advantage. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Driver's license (Class B). Comfortable working at heights (scaffolding or ladders). This position requires a certificate of good conduct We are looking for a person who: Works accuratelyand quickly. Our goal is to improve the conditions of collections in collaboration with museums, including reorganizing local storage, cleaning historic interiors, providing IPM training, documenting collections, and relocating items to new storage facilities. We also assist in developing emergency preparedness plans. We provide conservation services for a wide range of materials including textiles, metal, glass, ceramics, wood, leather, and fur. We also conduct courses on textile and object handling, mold, and hazardous substances in collections.
