 Message:  Applications open for Conservation Scientist, English Heritage, 
based in London.     We are looking for a Conservation Scientist to join our 
team. The role is full time and permanent, with a salary from 39,966, depending 
on skills and experience.  The role is based at Rangers House, SE London and 
use the extensive laboratory there funded through the CapCo, RIO and RICHeS 
schemes. The role will be responsible for properties in South London, the South 
East and West of England. Travel including overnight  stays will be required. 
Whilst hybrid working is possible, it is likely at least 3 days a week will be 
needed at Rangers House.   Working as part of the Conservation Research Team, 
you will support the conservation and care of our national collection indoors. 
Responsible for an extensive monitoring and interpretation program to manage 
environmental risks to the broad collection, which  encompasses almost every 
material from history. You will undertake targeted research to
 maintain this effectively in situ, in historic buildings.  The main duties 
are;  1.           Provide advice and support to regional collection 
conservation teams undertaking preventive conservation.  2.           Develop 
or use expertise in sustainable environmental management (RH, light, pollution, 
shock and vibration and temperature) and interpreting research into practical 
solutions for presentation, storage and enclosures.  3.           Undertake 
identified research into material deterioration, including non-invasive 
analysis and preventive conservation approaches; writing reports and 
disseminating findings to collections conservation and other appropriate teams. 
  4.           Publishing this work and actively engaging with the research 
community.  5.           Translate your own and other research into practical 
approaches for the regional conservation teams, instigating analysis and trials 
when required.  This role requires frequent travel to sites that are often in 
remote
 locations and so a full driving licence is advantageous. Occasional overnight 
stays away from home will also be required. Applications will close on 26 Jan.
