Subject: Innovation in Miniature Exhibit at Hagley Made Possible by FAIC/Tru
Vue® Conservation and Exhibition Grant
 Message:
Hagley Museum and Library invites you to see a display of three miniature room
models made by Eugene Kupjack, along with related collections from the William
Pahlmann Associates papers held in the Library. The exhibit features content
describing the conservation procedures necessary to make the models
presentable, which included replacement of the glass with Optium Museum
Acrylic. Please stop by if you are interested in miniatures, or the business of
20th century interior design. The exhibit will be open on weekdays 10 am - 4 pm
(except Wednesdays) through the end of March. The William Pahlmann papers
<https://findingaids.hagley.org/repositories/3/resources/1036> are open for
research at Hagley Library in Wilmington, Delaware.

This exhibition was made possible by a generous Foundation for Advancement in
Conservation (FAIC)/Tru Vue® Conservation and Exhibition Grant and in-kind
support of Optium Museum Acrylic for preservation of these works was provided
by Tru Vue, Inc. and Grewe Plastics and Displays.

Department, Yale University Art Gallery

This is a one-year, full-time position.

Expected start date: September 2026

Salary: The salary for the fellowship is $54,500 per year, plus an additional
$2500 for research and travel. The Fellow is allocated 21 research days during
the year. Relocation expenses will be covered up to $1500 (taxable and for
moves of greater than 50 miles). The fellowship includes a competitive benefits
package, including health insurance. For more information, please visit:

<https://postdocs.yale.edu/postgrads/being-a-postgrad-at-yale/benefits>

This position is in-person and based primarily at the Collections Study Center
at Yale West Campus in West Haven, CT. The Fellow will also work in the Yale
University Art Gallery in downtown New Haven. The workweek is Monday through
Friday, 8:30AM-5:00PM.

Position Focus

Founded in 1832, the Yale University Art Gallery is the oldest college art
museum in America. Today, it serves Yale University, the wider New Haven
community, and the public as a center of teaching, learning, and scholarship.
The Conservation Department is an integral part of this mission, with
specialists actively engaged in the treatment of paintings, objects, textiles,
furniture, East Asian paintings, and works on paper, along with related
research, teaching, and mentorship. The Postgraduate Fellowship in Photograph
Conservation is a full-time, one year position, intended for individuals
seeking advanced training and experience in the conservation of photographic
materials.

Under the supervision of the Assistant Conservator of Works on Paper, the
Fellow will build experience in the examination, documentation, and treatment
of photographs from the Gallery's extensive collections. The successful
candidate may also occasionally treat works on paper depending on interest and
project availability. During the fellowship term, the candidate will be
encouraged to pursue a research project of publishable quality.

Training

This position is designed to equip the successful candidate with the skills and
experience for future positions in the conservation field. During the term, the
Fellow will gain hands-on experience in the documentation, care, treatment, and
technical study of photographic materials and art on paper. The Fellow will be
fully integrated within the Conservation department and will be trained in the
department's workflows for exhibitions, loans, and preventive care. The Fellow
will benefit from deepening their knowledge and advancing in an active
conservation department in dialogue with curators and curatorial fellows,
conservation scientists from Yale's Institute for the Preservation of Cultural
Heritage, art handlers, exhibitions staff, registrars, educators, students, and
experts across the conservation community at Yale, and will be invited to
participate in all workshops and training opportunities open to the community.
The Fellow will be trained in the Gallery's collection
management system (TMS), and other databases and software as needed.

Mentoring

The Fellow will be an active and engaged member of the Gallery's Conservation
Department and gain familiarity with all aspects of the department's
operations. Mentorship will occur at multiple levels: the Fellow will work
closely with their direct supervisor on complex conservation projects that will
allow them to hone and strengthen their practical skills, critical thinking,
and self-confidence; biweekly meeting will be scheduled between the Fellow and
their supervisor, which will offer an opportunity to report back on their
assignments and exercise communication skills; the Fellow will closely
collaborate with the Assistant Conservator of Works on Paper and other members
of the department in engaging projects which will support their career
development. The Fellow will participate in biweekly Conservation Department
meetings and additional Gallery and collection-wide meetings to develop a
strong understanding of conservation's role across the broader Gallery and
University. The
Fellow will be invited to participate in events and professional development
opportunities for fellows and trainees, organized by the Gallery's Fellows
Forum and Yale's Committee for Educational Opportunities in Conservation.

Education and Preferred Experience

Emerging conservators with a Master's degree or postgraduate qualification in
conservation and a demonstrated specialization in photographic materials are
encouraged to apply.

The successful candidate will have a demonstrated record of treatment and
research; outstanding manual dexterity and an eye for detail; excellent
communication skills (listening, written, verbal); the ability to work both
independently and collaboratively on multiple concurrent projects; and a strong
sense of curiosity, with a strong interest in the research and study of works
of art and associated materials and techniques. Familiarity with imaging tools
used in conservation documentation, Adobe Creative Cloud, and the Microsoft
Office Suite is preferred.
