When I try to add a maven 2 project I get ...

This carries on for all the poms in the project. Why does it carry on
when this is a fatal error?
The logs dont provide any more information. I can see that temp files
have been created in /tmp but not directory summit-1. I tried creating
that directory but still the same problem.
Any suggestions?
