The sqpsmtpd logs contain all 'secure' email transactions. At least the laptop
users in the field and all remote users would (should) use a secure smtp
connection to send emails through the SME server but even on the local LANs,
you might find this to be used more often.
When you configure your email client to use a secure smtp server connection
(port 465), you will find all these email delivery transactions then in the
sqpsmtpd logfiles (rather qpsmtpd logs).
I think we need to add these numbers to show what the email server really does
but that is only my limited understanding - we might want to ask a more
experienced developer before doing anything with that?
Once you have email clients using this, you can test it as follows:
perl /usr/bin/spamfilter-stats-7.pl /var/log/sqpsmtpd/@*
/var/log/sqpsmtpd/current
I just ran that on our server and collected 47 emails for the previous 24 hour
period. Emails which I believe should be counted for.
Note: In many cases, the sqpsmtpd logs might fill up much slower than the
qpsmtpd logs, therefore warnings like
"Can't open /var/log/sqpsmtpd/@*: No such file or directory"
would probably be there for quite a long time.
Would there be any chance to suppress these warnings rather to wait for the
logs to fill up or rather doing a manual logrotate as explained in the Wiki?
