the blankpage is due to the upload_tmp_dir who is not set by default in the
php.ini
see bug 6650 and bug 7652
I'm playing with the contribs since i have set this value in the php.ini by
making a template as i described in
http://bugs.contribs.org/show_bug.cgi?id=7652#c1
i will comment this and set a wiki page to link to this issue.
