Install the SME7 version on a SME8 VM with all updates. Works as per wiki.
Upgrade using version in SMETest repo
smeserver-ajaxterm-1.0.5-4.el5.sme.noarch.rpm
Upgraded version works as per wiki, no issues with login etc.
64 bit awaiting new VM :-)
