A similar behavior has appeared again, complaining about a different character.
Error message:
utf8 "\x95" does not map to Unicode at /usr/bin/Learn.pl line 201.
These began shortly after the recent rise in spam counts.
The system is running SME 8, which I realize is far too old to be using.
Unfortunately, business demands has slowed our migration to SME 9.
