Actually what happened I think was that the server was backed up and risen onto
new hardware at a new location, and the router was changed to one which will do
Ipsec connections, but also handles the internal digital phone system with voip
trunks (and was initially configured by the phone company) . Consequently I
could not just forward all ports to the SMEServer, I had to forward each port
specifically. In the changing I think i destroyed the route by which the
letsencrypt server validate the certificates. I have yet had a chance to
investigate this fully, and so I just reverted the system to the self certified
certificates until I can get to grips with the routeing and re-instate the
letsencrypt system.
