I thought I'd actually posted the fix to my problem but I was wrong!
On line 653 of spamfilter-stats-7.pl I changed the 18 to 16 as below
substr( $log_items[7], 16 ); #Leave only email address
That fixed the problem for me - I have 7 servers that all have the same problem
& this simple change fixed them all with no other side effects.
