When did it occur?
What was the value of $rsyncoutput that caused it?
Not sure why we haven't seen this before.
Your 'fix' doesn't make much sense because $val should be initialized at 734.
( my $val = trim( $p[1] ) ) =~ s/ .*$//;
Probably an issue with $p[1] or the sed code which means $val doesn't get set.
If we know what $rynscoutput is I can probably work it out.
