I just checked.  It appears to want SUID (which isn't enabled in 
slackware - generally you build a wrapper for it).  It also would 
require me to uninstall apache, then recompile from source - or at the 
minimum, compile a new copy of apache in a new location with 
--enable-suexec as an option.  I would rather not go to this trouble 
unless there isn't another option
