I dislike moveable type. Lemme guess, suexec is now running it as "conchair", and the moveable type datafiles belong to "nobody", or something similar?

No, addressed previously. Stop blaming Movable Type on something that it cannot control, that is the fact that it is now running as nobody, since it's on the HTTPS server which is apparently different from the HTTP, and the files belong to conchair.users
