I spoke with Kristie about this, and briefly with Lisa and Mark.

Provide two or three 'con' computers. Link them to the web site (linux boxes with only a browser. Use WindowMaker or IceWM, etc). They go to the site, fill out their registration, use the credit card, and print the confirmation page. Confirmation page is then taken to the registration site, where they get a badge.

This can also be used as a "I got here late, but I want to go to the panel, here's my registration form"

We can do this with the web site, which already has the merchant account, and keep registration going online till the last minute - mainly because then we don't have to bother keeping track (although it'd be a good idea to keep an eye on it) - and we can have the 'up to and during the con' registration at full price.

For people wanting to pay cash, maybe an additional option for "Pay at registration by cash, check, or money order"

Money Order...? No.

(They could also use their laptops and such, but that'd be hard to let them print)

If they can remember their badge number, we could pull it up by that. We would just need to verify ID.

I think Penguicon's problem was that they were trying to be too fancy, and using 'special' registration computers.

Well, I wouldn't want to do this when there's people at the Registration desk, for sure. It's cheaper to run the card through the Tranz330...
