Sorry is this is a stupid question and has been answered b4 but is there a
minimum machine specification anywhere? i.e. scsi/IDE? 32/128Mb memory? etc
etc. I have a low speed Pentium 64Mb mem and a 2Gb scsi drive with 2 NIC's
to act as a fire wall between my home network and 'THE INTERNET' with a
cable modem connection. You mention Squid, last time I looked at this proxy
it ate discs for breakfast.

I think I/We should be told.....

Subject: [Cooker-firewall] Firewall beta 4 (revenge of sysadmin)

New story on (http://www.mandrakeforum.com)

Fourth beta of "Mandrake security", alias firewall, alias "cookfire"
is available for download.

In case you missed previous announcement, this is a special
distribution which should be installed on a gateway machine, in order
to provide security for a network behind it.

More information about this project can be found in "Firewall beta is
ready!" article and FAQ

Below is the list of the most important changes with respect to
previous Beta, and some additional information.

Separate binaries and sources on 2 isos. Thus, you need to download
only 250Mb now, compared to 500 Mb in the previous betas.

Wrote user manual, started writing developpers documentation
Analog and ISDN Modems support has been fixed.
Added support for hosting services on the firewall machine.
Better presentation of firewall statistics (graphical presentation of
network traffic, squid logging)

Proxy user level authentication
Plenty of bug fixes :=)

In short: Firewall is fully functional now, go and test it !!!
We are particulary interested on feed back on following questions:

Test different type of internet connections, (DSL, cable, Modem, ISDN,
LAN)

Find security holes and report at once !!!!
List of packages which should be removed on this distribution.
Ergonomics
Mistakes in "help system"
