The /var partition is the one that is used by urpmi, the logs, the cache
for squid ... 

Is you activate snort or prelude ... (don't get me your internet IP address
because I might prove that :o) ) and try a massive attack on the web
interface ... the logs will increase immediately ... so you will be soon
out of space ... so that really depends on how you configure the firewall
...

There is no answer like "you need that amount of Mb on the hard drive in
order to use this firewall" as this will depend on the firewall
configuration.
