You should only need XFree86-server-4.0.3-7mdk.ppc.rpm (and of course a
configuration). The installer actually still makes /etc/X11/XF86Config-4,
even when you choose Xpmac, but it's not used for Xpmac.
If you can get it configured, it may fix your offset problem. I hope to
get into post install X setup soon.
I released 2.4.4-6.1mdk, which works fine for me, but at least 1 person it
locked up on them. Check the cooker-ppc mirrors. I'd be curious if it
works for you. I built 2.4.4-6.2mdk also with serial as a module as it
should be, but haven't released it.
If you install from RPM, the "install-kernel" script runs and sets up
yaboot etc for your new kernel. I you roll your own from source, you'll
need to copy vmlinux and System.map to /boot and add a stanza in
/etc/yaboot.conf, then run ybin. Check the existing entries to see the
syntax, or man yaboot.conf (I think-not on a PPC machine at the moment).
If you've solved all your problems - I don't need any files from you ;^)
