Followup - just tried it on a Mandrake system with my CDDR-31. If it was
connected at boot, the usb-storage driver is loaded, but you still need
sd_mod for SCSI disk support. You could pick this up by adding:
above usb-storage sd_mod
in /etc/modules.conf
