Hello,

Tried beta1 last night and there are a couple (or
more) of observations I would like to share:

1. The partitioner in the installer does not accept
manually typing the partition size

2. DON'T INSTALL MySQL from the installer! This
screwed up the installer - when prompted for the
second CD, it would keep ejecting it back after I
press OK. Jumping to a terminal and using lsof
revealed that a mysqld process is locking some RPMs on
the 1st CD (which has been ejected, bizarre).

Killing the process solved everything, apart from most
of the services being turned off on the service menu.

3. My iBook2 was detected as a Powerbook

4. *Missing GNOME libraries*. Cannot even get to the
GNOME desktop. libpanel-applet missing, libguile
missing too.

5. Most items in Mandrake Control Center not
functioning properly. draknet, for instance. rpmdrake
does not display package info.

6. What's with DevFS support? I had to manually load
macserial to get /dev/tts/[0,1] and /dev/ttyS[0,1],
and still could not get my modem working with kPPP.
(Does anyone know if the XFS file system can be used
without devfs?)

7. Speaking of XFS, libattr is missing as well. Found
that out trying to install samba.

That's roughly it. Neat hardware support, but slightly
below the usability levels of x86 betas generally. Was
a bit disappointed to miss out on GNOME's new
translucent panel :(

Regards,

Michel Salim
