Hi,

I've had a look through the archives and a few of the other sites out
there and I've still got a weird problem with the internal modem on my
G3 Powerbook.

Kppp and wvdial can't see it, they keep saying either "Modem is Busy" or
"Modem doesn't respond"(Kpp) or "no modem installed" (wvdial) so I can't
dial out.

The odd thing is, I fired up minicom and it can see the modem fine. I
can send it an ATZ and it'll reply with 'OK' and then, wierder still, if
I leave minicom open, then kpp etc will work.

I'm thinking maybe that something minicom does to init the modem isn't
happening via the other apps. Unfotunately, when I get to that level,
I'm a little out of my depth. There doesn't appear to be anything in the
minicom conf file or the man page that would suggest what exactly 'it'
is.

Anyone have any ideas as to where I should start looking to nail this
problem? Possibly newer rpms from Cooker? I should be getting a copy of
the new beta of 8.2 in a week or so, but I'd much rather get this fixed
now on 8.0 as it's rock solid apart from this little glitch.

Relevant info is below, but if you need anything else I've forgotten,
just holler.

TIA.

G.
