Linux newbie and gf2mx

I'm sort of new to Linux, although I'm forcing myself to learn it with 
Mandrake 8.2b3 on my PC I want to use it at least sometimes on my G4/400 
agp.  The problem I have is when I've booted from the installer and the 
package selection window comes up, the video gets all funky overlayed on 
itself.  I have a gf2mx in my agp g4, is this a known problem?  Thanks 
for the help in advance.  If I get good enough with Linux I would like 
to deploy it more at work for servers.
