Jeff, I'm not trying to blow you off, but I'm not really setup here to be
able to install and test this properly. The main thing I note in the
strace output is the failed one never makes this call:
fstat64(1, {st_mode=S_IFCHR|0620, st_rdev=makedev(136, 6), ...}) = 0
Have you tried passing this to the samba developers? They may see your
output and know immediately what's wrong, and I'm more than willing to
make patches to fix the PPC version, but the time I can commit to an
individual package is limited.
The alternative is you helping me get up to speed with these apps. I use
samba here on my local network, but an older version with only 1 NT
machine, running in vmware, and a couple of win95 machines. The commands
you're having trouble with don't even exist in the version I'm using.
We can take this off the list, unless others are interesting in it. Samba
is probably not used very often in PPC.
