I think all you have to do is to add new kernel as one of the choices
in /etc/yaboot.conf. This can be done easuli by copying old settings
and changing the label and kernel image name (and inintrd image name.
Then run ybin. This will install new stuff into bootstrap partition.
On next boot just select your new kernel. My biggest problem was to
get the kernel to compile. There propably are some things that
are not ready for ppc, so at first tries I got errors that some files
were not found. Then when I managed to get everything to compile,
there was no problems. Only difference I had ws thsat I left initrd
out, because it was not needed in my system. But I think that the
important part in my case was to compile and install the modules, I
think that some important modules were added at that point.
