Thanks for the suggestion. Tried it already, however. Gnome's control 
panel has absolutely no effect. KDE's Keyboard panel has an option to 
turn repeating on or off, but none to change the rate.

I still don't understand why kbdrate crashes the system. Is this behavior 
distinct to the PBG4?
