OK thanks for all, i should mention i've tried XFdrake without any kind
of success, it did install something (asks for one CDrom at least) but
i've got a blackscreen afterwards. Fortunately it didn't modify anything
in that config except a new XF86Config-4 file and renaming the older
*.old. Then i was able to startx again, supposed in Xpmac mode.

3 questions :

- how am I sure i'm using Xpmac rather than XFree ?
- in case XFree suceeded, what is the way to switch from Xpmac to XFree
and back ?
- in case of Xpmac what and where are the config files for the keyboard ???
