I had the choice for XFree versus Xpmac but no choice for the screen
itself only resolution and color depth as when i was under console.

result is the same : black screen, XFConfig untouched.
but the symlink in /etc/X11 points now to Xfree86 no more to Xpmac.

i had first to rebuid the rpm db.

now, when i reboot i've tried a startx giving another black screen then i
had to hardware force reboot. /dev/hdg9 wasn't clean obviously fsck gives
a warning :

fsck.ext2 for /dev/hdg9 exited with signal 11

how may i recover ?

I should mention this is not the first time i've got sig 11 (ximian
mailer, gnome ppp dialer, galeon and xhfs) thenb mostly within gnome-like
apps.
