Interesting. Never really thought about this myself either. I remeber first doing Mandrake PPC from another distro starting point and it took some time to get a full Mandrake system. Similarly on the RS6000, where I couldn't do a proper install, and I had to sort of brute force things initially. I theory, gendistrib has been run on the mirror sources, but we all pretty much know the reality of the ppc mirrors. The ssh idea is interesting, but I'm not sure how well that would play out over the wire as I think it does some fairly deep digging into the RPM files themselves. Another thought: maybe run it from rescue, if I could get the proper bits on the rescue image (if they're not already there), or hack up the installer to be able to run it on the fly during the install.
