I really can't come up with any theory why you can load the same stage2 from the ISO and it fails via ftp, aside from file corruption when you transferred the files from the ISO. All that's really going on there is the transfer/untar of stage2 (Mandrake/base/mdkinst_stage2.bz2) to ramdisk. If you ran out of ramdisk it would crash also, but you're telling me you are using 34000, which has worked here for me. I've been doing mostly nfs installs, but just now did a BootX/ftp install on the 7600, up through entering the stage2 gui and language selection, and it was fine.
