Mach64 right?  Add the option:

Option "composite_sync" "off"

In /etc/X11/XF86Config-4.  Above the "BusID" line will work.

A 2nd, more extreme workaround is to rename:

/usr/X11R6/lib/modules/libi2c.a

To some other name so it doesn't load.
