Hi Stew,
it took some days before i could install the new beta;
to begin with the end: i couldn't get the display working, so i couldn't
test everything... but first the good news: my new airport card(4)
worked well...
but step by step:
none of the gui-options works on the newest ibook, so i used the
text-install. all went ok till the test of the display:
at this point everything went black, i had to reboot and install again.
the problem was the entry of the radeon device driver in XF86Config-4.
next time i used the expert-option for the install, which let me
manually install the fbdev driver. now the install went through, but
when i rebooted and tried to start X the following happened:
...
Build Operating System: Linux 2.4.19-19mdk ppc [ELF]
Module Loader present
Markers: (--) probed, (**) from config file, (==) default setting,
(++) from command line, (!!) notice, (II) informational,

(EE) FBDEV(0): FBIOPUT_VSCREENINFO: Invalid argument
(EE) FBDEV(0): Mode init failed
Fatal server error:
AddScreen/ScreenInit failed for driver 0
i wasn't able to get even a distorted (dancing lines) X-screen.
i was curious an installed this mandrake-kernel on my suse-intallation,
which works pretty well with the yellowdog kernel on my ibook. but there
has been the same result, no X screen and the same error messages. so
maybe there's a problem with the kernel? or did i do something wrong...
hope this helps,
wolfgang
