So, basically, I need to download and burn a CD?  Seems like a waste of
bandwidth.  I believe the Caldera OpenLinux install manages to have a GUI
start up when you boot from the floppy so it should be possible.  Even if
there's not enough space, how about downloading the extra files needed
after setting up networking?

Hmm.  The first octet of my IP address is 24.  Could the installer be
making an assumption because this is in the old class A address space?
