I just tried installing Mandrake 6.1 mirrored from rpmfind.net on
my IBM Thinkpad 560. The mirror was synced at 11:00PM CST on Sept 15.
I attempted it twice and both times it aborted at the exact same spot.
I booted the laptop with bootnet.img and then when it asked me to put
in the PCMCIA disk, I did. Through the 4th virutal console I could see
that modules : pcmcia_core, ii82365 and ds were successfully loaded.
eth0 device was found and configured.
And then I was asked to put in values for IP address etc and then the
name of the ftp server. Then the computer started transferring information
from the ftp server. The 3rd virtual console shows that the file
stage2.img
was downloaded successfully. Around this time the installation aborts
with the following message:
/usr/bin/runinstall2: cannot create /modules/modules.cgz: read-only file
system
install exited abnormally
I tried again with a freshly created pcmcia.img disk but no go. It seems
that the /usr/bin/runinstall2 program has bugs in it.
