I was being stupid here. Since I am used to have that partition mounted on
/bkup, I was typing that directory. the install went on whe I removed it
from the path.

It didn't go far, though, since it died on signal 11 when trying to install
the rpms.

Apparently, yes:

34267 Aug 22 13:46 depslist
42728 Aug 22 13:46 depslist.html

No, nothing bad here. I specified a formating. You need to do that or you
endup with a mess of twice installed rpms.

And it pays! The standard ftp install worked fine with only one error
message about the now missing rhs-hwdiag.

Few notes I took after the install:

1. My display has only a 8bpp depth setting and I got an error message when
I opened XFCE. I think the Mandrake background (backdrop?) needs more
colors. I am not sure this is good strategy but it's your choice...

2. When I then started GNOME, I got a warning and an error:
Warning: panel, No response to Save Yourself, blah-blah...
Error: Gnome Pager error. You are not running a GNOME compliant WM, please
run one.

3. The enlightenment help appears at the very bottom of my screen and I can
hardly see the top of its top bar. I nearly missed it.

4.I gt a bunch of warnings on the F1 screen:
*Gdk-WARNING**: locale not supported by C library
and also,
rm: Cannot remove '/home/kel/.gnome//gmc-xyz': No such file, blah-blah.
A bad path variable definition creating a double slash?

5. Netscape is from time to time starting I don't know what crazy background
task, and puts my machine on its knees. The only solution is to kill it.

That's it. Sorry if it's a bit long.
