Hi,

So, after about five nights worth of 56K mirror and rsync spread over a
couple weeks, I finally managed to burn a Helios CD and install it.

Things are mostly working fine now, but I had two problems with the upgrade
process which someone might want to investigate:

(1) My CD writer was no longer recognized. A bit of web browsing pointed at
the culprit: the overwritten lilo.conf which no longer had the kernel
parameter to specify that hdd should be using ide-scsi.

It would be neat if the existing lilo.conf could be preserved as much
as possible during upgrades, especially "append=" kernel options.

Or does Panoramix already do this?

(2) In /etc/csh.cshrc, there's a line which reads

    limit coredumpsize 1000000

I don't know whether this was there before, but every time I started a
terminal window, or ran Netscape or Real Player, I would get an error
message about not being able to set the limit. Netscape and RealPlayer
would refuse to start. I have worked around it by commenting out the
limit line, but that's obviously not ideal.

Other than those issues, and a little bit of tweaking to get VMware happy
again, things seem to be working well.
