[Cooker] pppd and linux cooker

I am running Cooker and 2.3.21 kernel I have ppp set up to start up
automaticly on boot. Wich works fine. But when the modem disconects it
fails to notice that the modem is shut off and thinks that it is still
running. I have to manualy kill pppd and then it will redial. this is
quite anoying ! lol.

Any ideas?
