I must be missing something in the process of upgrading the kernel.

Let's say I have a system with kernel-2.2.13-29mdk installed. The
system boots using an initrd. I upgrade to kernel-2.2.14-1mdk. Problem
is now the modules from the currently running kernel are gone (including
loop.o), so I am unable to make the initrd!

I notice that kernel-2.2.14-1mdk has the following %pre macro:

%pre
/sbin/modprobe loop 2> /dev/null > /dev/null
exit 0

Which looks like it should deal with the issue. Any idea what the
package version was when this was added?

Now on the subject of initrd's, would it not be a good idea for the
kernel install scripts to actually build the new initrd?

b.
