I'm going to download the cooker release, but I've some questions...
I've just installed the mandrake 6.1 on a BP6 (SMP) Motherboard, with an
ATA-66 HD drive; I've some problems and I would like to know if
some of these are fixed.
I'm unable to install MDK 6.1 using the ATA-66 bus, due a couple of
problems. first of all the standard kernel is unable to support the
HPT366 chipset, so to see it I've to build a 2.3.XX kernel.
Is there any hint about how to build a custom install disk? I can
build a image with a 2.3.xx kernel, just to see the ATA-66 bus.
(I've to build the kernels under RH6.1, the compiler shipped with
MDK6.1 chokes with developement kernels)
The second problem is that the bios is unable to remap the disk
geometry (ATA-66) like the LBA does, so I've to put the kernel image
in a small partition at the head of my HD. (I suspect that this can be
fixed with some lilo boot parameter, bu I'm not sure.) This leads to a
tricky installation.
With 2.3.XX kernels, the pppd that comes with MDK 6.1 doesn't work, so
I've installed the one shipped with RH 6.1 (2.3.10 instead of
2.3.8). The only drawback is that kppp is unable to handle the new
IP adress authentication option, so I've to use a tiny connect script
to open the ppp connection.
Is any of these issues fixed in Cooker? I can make some test, I've
only to download it (sigh :-) )
