In fact, printtool has not been replaced but by default we provide our tool
including a /usr/bin/printtool symlink if printtool has not been installed.
Though it does not provide the same set of functionalities, printerdrake
requires less dependancies and can be used as a text-only configuration tools.
You can still install printtool, the package is available.
