Hi,

I've downloaded and installed 7.0 using the "Recommended" setting. I'll
be giving the other two settings a test Friday and Saturday.

I don't know if you want my background or not but here goes.

I do testing for 3 different commercial pieces of software: beta testing
for a desktop publishing program, a disaster recovery program, and I am
on the development and alpha testing team for a 3D graphics and
animation program.

I have also installed every major distribution to test their new
installers (Caldera, Red Hat, Suse, Turbolinux). I'll be writing a
review on these.

I have some small interface suggestions for the installer based on this
past experience.

1. Even though you can step back to a previous step by clicking on the
list on the left side of the screen, some steps have more than one
dialog box that appears. These "substeps" should have a back button on
them (also useful as a panic button for new users some times).
2. The currently selected partition in the partition manager should be
VERY obvious for inexperienced users. Have a box appear around the
selected partition.
3. The font size for the mount points is too small. I didn't notice the
"/" in the root partition the first time.
4. You have a lot of unused area around the dialog boxes and popup
windows. Decrease this space and increase the display area for the
instructions.
5. The text explanations are ok for someone that has installed Linux at
least once, but the partitioning info is a little sketchy for Linux
newbies. This is important for the people that want to give your
distribution a try by buying a "cheap CD" from Linux mall, or who
download an iso image.

Problem
During the install, the printer did not print the test pages ( a Deskjet
600C). I finally hit cancel after running through the printer setup
twice. After Mandrake was installed, the ASCII sample pages printed when
the computer rebooted. The postscript pages never printed.
