have you tried the DeskJet 550C or DeskJet 820C drivers? I have an 890C,
and before I started using the 850 series driver the 550C driver worked
fine (this was awhile back before the other drivers existed, in the
ghostscript README files the 550C was mentioned as the first driver to try
for unlisted DeskJet printers)
